I often get asked how to install our ThroBak Butyrate M-69 humbucker mounting rings to a guitar. ThroBak M-69 humbucker mounting rings are the perfect complement to ThroBak PAF reproduction humbucker guitar pickups but of course you want to make sure they fit your guitar correctly. The good news is, with ThroBak M-69 humbucker guitar pickup mounting rings, installation is usually as simple as screwing them to the guitar top. Vintage M-69 mounting rings were molded with flat bottoms just like ThroBak M-69 humbucker mounting ring reproductions. And since ThroBak uses the vintage correct Butyrate plastic formulation, our ThroBak M-69 humbucker mounting rings will conform to the top carve without cracking, just like vintage M-69 rings. So if you are installing ThroBak M-69 humbucker mountings rings on a Gibson Historic Les Paul, ES-335 or SG the fit should be perfect without any trimming or sanding.
However if your guitar is more arched you may need to trim and sand the rings to avoid too much distortion to the mounting rings. This video by Dan Erlewine does a great job showing how to trim and sand humbucker pickup mounting rings to fit your guitar if the top has a more pronounced contour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBusI7wEjOc
